Sighnaghi is a town in Georgia, the administrative center of Sighnaghi municipality. Its elevated position was convenient for defense; gateways were set into the town wall for the quick sheltering of the population of the surrounding villages. Sighnaghi today is one of Georgia's most beautiful towns, its charm owed both to the architectural character it acquired over time and to its natural setting: the town spreads over high hills, overlooking the open expanse of the Alazani valley and the ranges of the Caucasus.
