A complex nature reserve in Dedoplistskaro municipality, in Georgia's extreme east, 200 km from Tbilisi. It was declared a reserve in 1935. Its total area is 101.43 km², of which 40.32 km² is forested; the rest is steppe, desert, ravines and badlands. The main components of the reserve's open woodland are the turpentine tree and juniper. Many species of birds and mammals occur, including wild boar, wolf, bear and striped hyena. The reserve's purpose is to protect and preserve the rare flora and fauna of the now greatly diminished open woodland.
