Abisi fortress is a historic stronghold on the outskirts of the village of Abisi, Kareli municipality, on the right bank of the western Prone and the left bank of the Tkotsuraskhevi. The fortified hall was built in the 1750s–60s. The abandoned village site dates to the late feudal era. According to the Mkhedruli inscription above its south door, the fortress church was built in 1754 at the commission of the nobleman Zaal Makhviladze, who intended to restore these lands ravaged by marauding enemies.
