Derchi St.Ioane's Church

Church Imereti, Tskhaltubo district

Church Church

A church in Imereti, standing in the center of the village of Derchi, probably built in the 14th century. The church's central space ends on the east in a deep, horseshoe-shaped apse. This nave opens to the side annexes through one wide arch on each side; it is lit by three sanctuary windows and one in the west wall. One window is cut in each of the north and south naves. The main space, like the annexes, is covered with a vault. The church has two entrances, from the west and south. The western chamber — the narthex — connects by doors with all three naves. The St. John the Baptist church of Derchi is one of the interesting monuments of medieval Georgian architecture.
