A fortress in Abkhazia, in the village of Bzipi, Gagra municipality. Within the walled fortress stand an 8th–10th-century church and the remains of other buildings. The wall incorporates towers, buttresses and a gateway. The church is cross-domed; inside, the dome rests on four free-standing pillars, and on the east it has projecting faceted apses. The facades bear carved decoration. By decree of the President of Georgia, in 2006 the fortress was granted the status of an immovable cultural monument of national significance
