Jruchi monastery is an 11th-century Georgian monastery in Sachkhere municipality, at the head of the Jruchula — a right tributary of the Kvirila — near the village of Tskhomareti. The complex includes an 11th-century domed church (remodeled in the 19th century) whose walls bear lapidary inscriptions. In later times the monastery fell into decay and was renewed in the 16th–17th centuries. At the end of the 17th century the Jruchula valley became territory disputed between the eristavis of Racha and the princely house of the Tseretelis, so it already served as a fortress. In the 1760s Solomon I restored Jruchi monastery and later granted the Tsereteli family the right of burial here. By 1810 the monastery held extensive serf estates in Upper Imereti and Racha. After the abolition of the kingdom of Imereti (1810), Jruchi monastery became the family property of the Tseretelis. Remains of other High Middle Ages buildings also survive on the monastery's territory.
