The territory of the village of Dvani has been inhabited since ancient times and is known for its Bronze Age archaeological finds. Archaeological material of the 8th–7th centuries BC (a necropolis) attests to the incursion of Scythians and Cimmerians here. The population formerly lived on the heights but, for lack of water, moved down to the lowland. In the era of united feudal Georgia, Dvani belonged to the grand duchy of Kartli; after Georgia's political fragmentation, from the 16th century, to the duchy of Ksani.
