The Georgian scholar and public figure, founder of Tbilisi State University, Academician Ivane Javakhishvili (1876–1940) spent his childhood here. The young Ivane often came down to the village in summer, and his first scholarly researches began here too. Later, as a famous scholar, he remained a frequent guest at Khovle, pursuing his scholarly work here, and distinguished Georgian figures often visited him in the village. The museum was officially opened in 1976 as part of the events marking the scholar's 100th anniversary. It preserves Ivane Javakhishvili's memorial belongings, a rich library collection, archaeological and ethnographic material from Khovle-Gora, works of fine art, and photographic and documentary materials. The number of exhibits is 485.
