A lake in the Tbilisi basin, northwest of the city. Surface area 0.47 km², basin area 16 km², maximum depth 4 m, volume 1.22 million m³. It is fed by rain, snow and groundwater. Its level is high in spring and low in autumn. In summer the water is warm, with a maximum temperature of 28°C. In winter shore ice forms, sometimes a full ice cover. The water is brackish (mineralization 2,695 mg/l). The lake is stocked with fish. It is a favorite spot for water sports and fishing enthusiasts and a recreation place for the people of Tbilisi.
