A lake of landslide origin in Georgia, in Aspindza municipality, on the right side of the Mtkvari River, 1,539 m above sea level, spread near the ruins of Tmogvi fortress. Surface area 0.034 km², basin area 1.8 km². Greatest depth 10.8 m, average depth 6.6 m, volume 284 thousand m³. The lake basin formed when the western edge of the Akhalkalaki lava plateau slid into the Mtkvari valley. In the past the lake was taken for an explosion crater, or maar. It is fed by snow, rain and groundwater. The lake has no surface outflow and is fresh, draining underground.
