Jandari is one of the important bodies of water in eastern Georgia, lying in the Mtkvari basin. The lake is of reservoir type with an outflow; half of it lies to the southeast on the territory of Azerbaijan. In the lake's northwestern part is a small bay, while the southeastern part is quite wide and deep. The shores are mostly gentle and low, and at maximum water level a considerable part of them floods. The northwestern shore is also marshy, with stiff marsh vegetation (mainly reed and reedmace). Around the canal mouth horsetail rush also occurs.
