The Natlismtsemeli (Baptist) monastery of Gareji is a monastery of St. John the Baptist within the David Gareji complex, 12 km west of David's Lavra. It is a single complex carved into the rock, founded in the 6th–7th centuries by Lukiane, disciple of David of Gareji: "by command of Father David was built the desert monastery of Mravalmta in the name of St. John the Baptist." The monastery is carved into a rock massif of sandstones of marine origin. Notable among its structures is the unusually tall and spacious main church. A small chamber adjoins it on the north, connected to the main hall by two arches. Before the sanctuary stands a chancel screen of the second half of the 18th century. South of the main church is another small church, reached by a stair cut in the rock. At the entrance to the main church rise a tower and a belfry built over the gate. Fragments of painting of the first half of the 12th century survive in the interior.
