A resort town, the administrative center of its municipality. It received town status in 1918. Population 9,900 (2002). It lies at the confluence of the Mtkvari, the Borjomula and the Gujaretis Tskali, 800–900 m above sea level. In 1825 soldiers of the Russian Empire accidentally discovered the Borjomi mineral water, whose commercial bottling began in 1890.
