The Agara complex contains one of the largest single-nave churches in Georgia. The main church was built in the 10th century or at the start of the 11th and repaired no earlier than the 14th. The Agara monastery is located in Georgia's Samtskhe-Javakheti region, Akhaltsikhe municipality, southeast of Akhaltsikhe above the village of Uravela in the Uravela valley, on a mountain crest on the right bank of the river.
