The Shoreti monastery complex lies in southern Georgia, on the border of four historical provinces — Samtskhe, Javakheti, Tori and Trialeti — in Aspindziskhevi, 11 kilometers from the townlet of Aspindza. Aspindziskhevi, the natural boundary of Samtskhe-Javakheti, held an important strategic position. The left bank of the Sanislo (Otistskali) River is formed by steep rocky mountains; trails lead into Trialeti toward Shavi Klde, and the Kldekari (a cart road cut through the rock) leads toward Tsikhisjvari (Tori), where the road crosses the Kodiani (the Sharvasheti ridge).
