The St. Nino convent of Poka lies in southern Georgia, on the shore of Lake Paravani. The monastery's founding is linked with the name of St. Nino of Cappadocia, who brought Christianity to Georgia. St. Nino entered Georgia from Javakheti and rested by Lake Paravani. In the 11th century a church was built in her name. The hall church is built of cleanly dressed, evenly laid blocks... In the sanctuary apse are two tall niches, semicircular in plan. Decorative ornament survives only on the south facade; the doors and windows are adorned with carving. Fragments of painting survive in the interior. The inscription above the door mentions Ioane Okropiri, Catholicos of Kartli, while the inscription to the right of the door names the monument's builder, "the craftsman Bevreli". During the wars of conquest in the 17th century Javakheti — and with it the church — was emptied. Only at the beginning of the 19th century were these territories recovered.
