Gantiadi basilica

Church Abkhazia, Gagra district

Church Church

The Gantiadi church is a 6th-century three-apse basilica in the townlet of Gantiadi (Gagra municipality). It was built in 543 [citation needed] but repeatedly remodeled in the 8th–10th centuries. In 1576 it was partly destroyed in the Ottoman invasions. It is one of the oldest Christian churches of Abkhazia and of all Georgia. Only the ruins of the basilica have come down to us.
