The synagogue was built in the eclectic style in 1895. It is the third largest after the synagogues of Tbilisi and Kutaisi. White limestone was used as the building material. The roof is domed, and the building is rectangular in form; the dome is crowned with a many-pointed Star of David. The building faces east.
