St. George's Church of Mashavera

Church Kvemo Kartli, Dmanisi district

Church Church

The church stands in the Dmanisi district, on the right bank of the Mashavera River, west of the village, on a rocky promontory. It rests on artificially leveled rock and has a single-stepped socle. The monument is built of roughly dressed basalt, with the corners and structural parts in cleanly cut stone. The only door, spanned by a large architrave, is set in the south wall. Three windows face east, west and south; the opening of the east window is ringed by a pair of plain roll moldings. On the ridge of the west facade's gabled roof stands a belfry lantern resting on four round columns.
