The museum preserves materials recovered by archaeological excavation on the territory of the Svaneti region; unique examples of Georgian repoussé art and icon painting (a 10th-century icon of the Savior, icons of the first half of the 11th century with the image of Christ Enthroned and the St. George icon of Asani, the 12th-century "Icon of the Forty Martyrs" and "Icon of the Crucifixion", painted icons of the Mother of God of the 9th–10th centuries and others, and ritual objects — 9th–14th-century processional fans and more); ancient manuscripts (the 11th–13th-century manuscript Four Gospels of Hadishi, Labskaldi, Ienashi and Mestia in repoussé bindings); examples of early and late medieval military equipment and of iron, silver and copper work, jewelry, vessels and textiles; ethnographic objects documenting the life of old Svaneti, and more.
