Toma Tsitsisvhili Palace

Museum Shida Kartli, Khashuri district

Museum Museum

According to the available information, in the 19th century the Tsitsishvilis — landlords of Kartli — had a common committee embracing all their property. For unknown reasons Toma Tsitsishvili broke away from this committee and in 1874 built a magnificent mansion in the middle of the village, painted with astonishing craftsmanship. After the Tsitsishvilis left the village, from 1920 their manor house, which counted twenty rooms on its two floors, passed to the village council. For many years it housed the village council, the collective farm office, a clinic, a nursery, a library and the village club. In 1930 part of the building burned; after restoration it housed the school until 1974.
