Excavated in 1971–84 by the Zhinvali archaeological expedition of the Iv. Javakhishvili Institute of History and Ethnology (led by B. Jorbenadze). Two burial vaults of the cemetery and two churches, together with their graves, were moved and re-erected in the courtyard of the Dusheti archaeological base of the O. Lordkipanidze Center for Archaeological Research. Since 1985 the site has lain in the zone flooded by the Zhinvali hydroelectric reservoir.
