As it turned out, two main layers were found here: a church built at the end of the 12th century (up to about half its height), followed by two restorations in the 17th century, one of which coincided with the building of a gateway. The Kviratskhoveli church of Skhaltba was built in 1669 by order of the steward Shioshi, of the house of Ivane Zedgenidze, and his wife Tamar. According to an inscription carved on one of the gateway pillars, the church was built by the master Melkan Purtskhvanidze. The monument was restored in 2007.
