Stylistically it dates to the 11th century. It was repaired in 1946, when the cracked walls and vault were reinforced; in the 1990s the interior was plastered and the enclosure wall rebuilt. The sanctuary was adorned by a chancel screen (first quarter of the 11th century), two surviving slabs of which are kept in the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts.
