In the 1920s, 32 households (147 people) still lived here. The village's first family name was Ochoidze, who split into the Bakuridze and Akimidze; the original name then fell out of use. Chigho was also home to the Elanidze family, whose adopted branch was the Meshvelidze; the Markhvaidze, with their branch the Taliuridze; and the Bekuridze, with their branch the Khelaidze.
