Ilia Lake — named in honor of the great Georgian writer and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze — was created two years ago in the valley of the Duruji River, in the Kvareli district. The artificial lake lies in the unique Kindzmarauli microzone. On one side it is ringed by hills covered with deciduous forest; on the other side a recreation park, cafes and restaurants have been laid out, and a new hotel is being built in the forest. The lake was created at state expense to develop recreational infrastructure in the Kvareli district, and it has become a favorite resting place of the locals.
