Gveleti is a village in Kazbegi municipality, in the Dariali gorge, on the right side of the Devdaraki River (a left tributary of the Tergi), 1,560 meters above sea level, 9 kilometers from Stepantsminda. According to the 2002 census, 1 person lives in the village. A feudal-era fortress survives in the village, mentioned by the Chronicler of the Ages (14th century) and by the author of the "Dzegli Eristavta" (14th century). King David VIII, in revolt against the Mongols, took refuge in Gveleti fortress in 1301.
