A town (since 1963) in eastern Georgia, the administrative center of its municipality. It lies on the Shiraki plain, 800 m above sea level, 144 km from Tbilisi by rail. Population 7,700 (2002). The town has industrial enterprises and healthcare, educational and cultural institutions. Khornabuji fortress stands nearby.
