The church of St. Elijah was built in 2006 on the remains of an older church; archaeological excavations attest a church here as early as the 6th century. Alexandre Dumas (père), who traveled here in 1859, recorded an interesting local legend: that a raven brought food to St. Elijah here, and that it was from this spot that he ascended to heaven after leaving his mantle to his disciple Elisha. Eliaoba is one of the favorite feasts of the people of Kiziki; it is celebrated on August 2, when crowds gather on the mountain slopes.
