The Red Bridge (Broken Bridge) stands on the Khrami River southeast of Tbilisi, on the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan. The bridge is an important monument of Georgian architecture, built by Rostom, king of Kartli, in the mid-17th century. Since the day it was built it has never collapsed or broken, yet the name "Broken Bridge" has stuck to it. The reason is the remains of an older bridge on both banks of the Khrami, 95 meters from the present one, of which only the supporting piers survive.
