St.Michael Monsatery Complex in Kabeni

Church Shida Kartli, Tetri tskharo district

Church Church

Kabeni monastery is a monument of Georgian architecture within a monastery complex near the village of Kiketi, in the valley of the Asuretistskali (Tetritskaro municipality). The complex included the great domed church of the Dormition of the Mother of God and the small hall churches of Simeon the Stylite and the Archangel Michael. Judging by surviving drawings and photographs, the Kabeni church was an outstanding monument of Georgian architecture of the first half of the 13th century. With small changes it repeated the plan of the domed church of Betania (the interior space was resolved in the same way), yet differed from it essentially in the decorative system of its facades, which followed that of the Samtavisi-Ikorta churches.
