According to tradition, the church of the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia — the Church of the Most Holy Mary (today's Anchiskhati) — was the only one in Tbilisi allowed to keep ringing its bells during Arab rule. For this reason it was formerly also called the "Bell Church".
