The natural monument is a canyon-like valley cut by the Abasha River through the anticline built of the Abdati limestones. The canyon is 2,400 m long, 20–30 m deep, and 5–10 m wide. In two places in the canyon natural limestone bridges are preserved — a sign that a karst cave once collapsed here. In addition, in the canyon's middle course small waterfalls with drops of 12–15 m form. One stretch stands out for its exceptional beauty: this is Oputskhole, known as the "Dadianis' bathing place". The path down follows a stair built of large limestone blocks; according to tradition, it was by this stair that Giorgi Mtatsmindeli and David the Builder descended. On the surrounding limestone cliffs flourishes the flora characteristic of the Colchian forest with its unique representatives: bear hazel, Colchian boxwood, yew and others. Mosses of various species and ferns abound.
