The natural monument is a two-level cave formed in bedded limestones of Eocene age on the Askhi massif, on the northwestern slope of the Tabakela ridge, on the left side of the Abasha valley. Through it flows a permanent stream that joins the Abasha River. Its front part has collapsed, forming an open ravine; here a stone-and-lime wall has been raised, fitted with loopholes. The cave consists of two large chambers connected by narrow but tall passages. In the southeastern corner of the far chamber is a 10-m step by which the cave's second level can be reached. Here there are many stalactites, stalagmites, travertine cascades, gours and curtains, as well as large boulders and local weathering debris. Spiders and other insects live in the cave. In the Middle Ages the historic structure was used as a fortress.
