The natural monument is a complex distinguished by its intricate palaeogeographic, geological and above all geomorphological structure, comprising neotectonic formations, lacustrine deposits and a spectacular slot canyon. The Okatse canyon, cut by the Satsiskvilo River into Upper Cretaceous limestone, is 35–50 m deep and on average 4 m wide; in places the canyon walls almost meet, forming natural stone bridges — one of them, "Boga", allows a view down to the canyon floor.
