The natural monument combines a deep canyon-like valley cut into lava rocks on the middle course of the Khrami (Ktsia) River with the canyon of the Chivchavi River. The Samshvilde canyon begins with an exposed quartz-porphyry intrusion, from which weathering releases beautiful, uniformly faceted bipyramidal crystals of magmatic quartz — these crystals are a true wonder of nature. The monument includes 5–6 kilometers of the Khrami canyon and 3–4 kilometers of the Chivchavi canyon, with an average incision depth of 300 m. Near the natural monument lies an interesting historical site — the ancient town of Samshvilde.
