In several places in the valley of the Bidara River there are accumulations of calcareous travertine deposited by springs, mostly associated with the carbonate series. One of the most important and picturesque travertine sites lies on the left bank of the Bidara near the road tunnel. Here transparent water slides in a thin sheet down the white face of the slope, building dazzling travertine that is still actively forming.
