Akaurta is a village in the Bolnisi district (Bolnisi eparchy), in the foothills of the middle Khrami, on the left side of the Mashavera River, 720 m above sea level, 12 km from Bolnisi. At Akaurta stands a church built of large dressed blocks (5th–6th centuries), with a projecting faceted apse on the east. The church's nave was evidently divided by columns. Several relief images survive. The Akaurta three-nave basilica is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God (later the basilica's four columns were demolished and a single space obtained in place of the three naves). The church's external dimensions: length 15.5 m, width 10 m, interior height 8 m. The monument was rehabilitated by the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Monument Protection and Sport in 2007–2008.
