The Tavkavta complex lies in Shida Kartli, in the Kaspi district, 7–8 kilometers south of the village of Tsinarekhi, on a rocky promontory of the ridge dividing the Kavtura and Botsistskali rivers. First the walled fortress was built; later, on the promontory's steep eastern slope, a terrace was created with a retaining wall, into whose northern wall the St. George's church was built. The complex includes the walled fortress, the St. George's church and the remains of other buildings. It has two approaches, from the south and from the north — from the Kavtura valley. A stone arched bridge once spanned the Kavtura, of which only small parts survive. The fortress is damaged: the upper parts of the walls have collapsed everywhere, the west wall of the lower fortress is almost completely destroyed, and the plan of the buildings inside is unclear.
