Bochorma fortress was an important strategic point in the 10th century, second only to Ujarma, and also a political center of Kakheti. According to Vakhushti Bagrationi, the stronghold ranks among the most ancient fortresses. It was first called Dedatsikhe, later Vechorma, and finally Bochorma. The date of its construction is unknown; it is first mentioned at the beginning of the 10th century.
