Monastery Monastery

In the 14th–15th centuries the Largvisi monastery was an important center of culture and learning. Manuscripts were copied and translated and books illuminated here. The monastery had a rich library, and famous calligraphers and copyists worked here — the father and son Avgaroz and Grigol Bandaisdze. At the beginning of the 15th century Grigol Bandaisdze wrote the "Dzegli Eristavta", the family chronicle of the eristavis of Ksani. Largvisi monastery also served as a place of refuge: the chronicle tells us that in 1723 the treasures of Svetitskhoveli were hidden at Largvisi.
