The Metekhi Church of the Mother of God dates to the 13th century. The buildings have been repaired several times. In the late feudal era the dome, vaults, upper wall sections and ornamental decoration were restored. The most recent restoration work was carried out by the special scientific restoration workshop in 1968, when the church was re-roofed with tiles and the grounds cleared and landscaped.
