Korogho St.Mary's Church

Church Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Dusheti district

Church Church

The Church of the Mother of God of Korogho is a hall church (10.8 × 7.6 m) built at the turn of the 10th–11th centuries. Among buildings of this type it stands out for its wholly different, distinctive treatment of the interior space. It is built of rubble stone and slate; the structural parts (vaults, conch, arches, piers), the door and window surrounds and the cornice are of dressed stone. The entrance is on the south. The church has no apse and ends on the east in a straight wall. On the line of the sanctuary's shoulders stand two square piers carrying two-stepped arches sprung toward the east
