The construction of Chakvinji fortress can be dated to the early period of the kingdom of Egrisi — the 4th–5th centuries — as its archaeological and architectural analysis indicates. In historical sources it is mentioned from the 17th century. These records tell us very little, for the fortress stood for fifteen centuries and must have lived through a long history in that time.
