At the end of the 19th century 18 households lived in the village; in the 1920s there were still 14 (47 people), of the Utsoidze, Omaidze, Alkhanaidze, Kavtaridze and Abaloidze families. Later, in the Soviet period, the village slowly emptied completely, some moving to Kakheti. Every year in summer the people of Chesho go up to their village.
