Tsalka is a town in Georgia, the administrative center of Tsalka municipality and of the Tsalka community (village of Tbeti). It lies in the Tsalka basin, on the shore of the Tsalka reservoir and the Khrami River, 1,460 m above sea level. Its old name was Edzani, later Barmaksizi (until 1932). Historic Tsalka was covered by the reservoir. In the 10th–15th centuries it was the religious-administrative center of Trialeti; the bishop of Tsalka sat here. It was declared a town in 1984. Population 1,700 (2002). The town has industrial enterprises and healthcare, educational and cultural institutions. Among its historical monuments are the 6th-century three-church basilica of Edzani, with a second church of the 10th century. Tsalka holds the cathedra and residence of the eparchy of Manglisi and Tsalka.
