The natural monument is a canyon-like valley of rare biodiversity, cut by the Ktsia (Khrami) River into the volcanogenic rocks of the Dashbashi lava upland. The ecosystems around the canyon are rather poor in vegetation, but the plant life clinging to the canyon's steep slopes and its spectacular waterfalls create an entirely different microlandscape, with its own microclimate, distinctive fauna and so on.
