The natural monument is a two-level cave on the Askhi limestone massif, formed in thin-bedded limestones of Upper Cretaceous (Turonian-Danian) age against the dip of the strata. It begins with a spacious entrance chamber continued by a corridor 4–5 m wide and 3–5 m high. At the 100th meter from the entrance the cave develops two branches; its maximum length is 276 m. The main passage — a meandering corridor — ends in a sizable chamber, in whose wall the cave's second level, 30 m long, opens. Near the entrance the ceiling collapsed at some point. Stalactites predominate in the cave, stalagmites are rare; it is rich in plastic clay deposits 3.5–4 m thick. The air temperature at the entrance is 18°C, at 100 m 11.6°C, and at the end 11.5°C. A stream flows through the cave, joined by a second stream, and 15 m on it emerges as a spring on the left side of the Jortsku River. The cave is interesting for its characteristic fauna and palaeontological specimens; moreover, it once served as a human dwelling. Bones of cave bear, lynx, bison and other animals have been found here.
