The natural monument is one of Georgia's most remarkable caves by its dimensions — a clastokarst and pseudokarst cave 600 m long formed in Meotian conglomerates. The cave opens with an entrance chamber that forms the final section of a branching subhorizontal gallery. Along an erosional canyon cut into the floor of the main gallery flows a sizable cold underground river; the canyon's depth reaches 7–8 meters in places. Two branches split off from the main gallery, narrower and shorter than it; one of them runs right through and opens to the surface at its upper end. In summer, bats occur in the cave and its surroundings.
