The Church of the Mother of God was built in the second half of the 12th century, in 1150–1178. It is a hall church (14.2 × 8.2 m), entered from the west. The interior space is quite open, further extended by the bema before the sanctuary. The vault's transverse arch rests on pilasters. Each transverse wall has one window, the north wall two. The church was painted immediately upon construction; remains of the painting survive in the sanctuary and on the west wall, its coloring reddish brick-toned. The sanctuary painting is divided into three registers: the composition of the conch has not survived; the middle register carries large half-length figures of the apostles, while the lower is occupied by figures of the church fathers. On the west wall the figure of a warrior saint with spear and shield can be made out. In the sanctuary window a small piece of ornament remains, its palette of golden yellow, green, light blue and blue.
